1. Overview
An AI-powered mobile application for instant interior decor ideas for your home. People can take pictures of a space and make changes to the interior design.
Project Objective: Design an AI-powered interior design app that helps users overcome challenges related to creativity, time, resources, and knowledge when designing their homes – assist them to create visually appealing and cohesive home designs.

2. Understanding the Problem
Homeowners face challenges blending creativity, time constraints, resource availability, and design expertise for effective interior decor. Current design processes lack cohesive integration, resulting in suboptimal outcomes and frustration.
To address this, I worked alongside the business stakeholders and potential users to design an AI-powered mobile app that allows users to capture room images and instantly receive personalized design suggestions. The app's AI engine will analyze dimensions, existing decor, and user preferences, offering real-time customizations and budget-friendly alternatives.
By eliminating barriers tied to creativity, time, resources, and design knowledge, this innovation addresses a major pain point for homeowners when and aims to empower users of all backgrounds to effortlessly craft visually beautiful, functional, and harmonious home interiors, reshaping the concept of home design.
3. Approach
The client shared results from UX research and a set of wireframes, this served as a valuable starting point for our discussions. Through a series of conversations, we collaborated to refine and streamline the wireframes, ensuring they were actionable and effective before getting into high-fidelity design.
The project commenced with the client providing invaluable insights from an in-depth UX research phase, which included a comprehensive set of user stories. Alongside this, we collaborated to refine and streamline a well-structured set of wireframes, serving as a solid groundwork for the subsequent development of high-fidelity designs. Through iterative conversations, a collaborative refinement process was undertaken to ensure the high-fidelity design solutions were not only actionable but also optimized for effectiveness.
By seamlessly merging research-driven insights and design expertise, we forged a professional solution that respects the confidentiality of the research while harnessing its essence for a refined design output.
The solution
The results from the research revealed the challenges users had with the task which was in line with the research goal to identify problems with the user's current approach and their needs, uncover opportunities to improve the current approach, gather insights and learn about user behaviours and preferences.
I broke down the major pain points under common themes and potential features for iOS and Android users:
Instant design changes
Take a picture of an empty or furnished space to get started, or select from an existing picture on your mobile.
Room layout design
Consider the primary function of the space for more accurate design ideas.
E.g. Kitchen, Bedroom, Laundry Room etc.
Colour scheme
Choose your preferred colour scheme for your space.
E.g. monochromatic, analogous, complementary, tetradic etc.
Virtual furniture
Choose any piece of furniture to incorporate into the space.
E.g. sofa, armchair, coffee table, bookshelf, etc.
Design element
Choose any elements or features to add to your space.
E.g. fireplace, ceiling fans, air conditioner, arched doorway, rug etc.
Wall Decor
Choose specific wall decor options for your space.
E.g. murals, wallpaper, panelling, gallery, wall art, mirror wall, etc.
Flooring
Choose specific flooring options for your space.
E.g. hardwood, carpet, tile, concrete etc.
From the result of the research, we identified some major unique selling propositions (USPs), these are the unique set of features that will set the product apart from competitors and enable us to outperform other solutions in the market:
Floor plan preservation
Choose to maintain the existing floor plan or allow AI to go wild.
Mood and atmosphere
Choose your preferred atmosphere for the space e.g. calm, elegant, bright, serene, glamorous, winter, etc.
Style preference
Choose your overall design style preference.

Share your final designs to get reactions from other users of the app or choose to keep them for yourself alone.
The conclusion
By simplifying the interior design process and making it accessible to a wider range of users, we believe we can help users can visualize their design before making any physical changes. This can allow the business to disrupt the home design market and generate a significant return on investment.

Whether it's adjusting colours, adding or replacing furniture, or removing items from their designs to fine-tune the details, this intuitive feature ensures their space reflects their evolving vision.

User Authentication
This feature allows users to experience effortless access tailored to their preferences – starting with a quick peek at the app's features using an anonymous account. Or elevate their experience by creating an account or logging into an existing account via Apple or Google authentication to reveal extended features and in-depth usage history.
There's an option to input a referral code from a friend to earn credits to use when generating designs, however, for those in haste, bypassing this step is just as effortless. This holistic approach combines security with user-friendly features, fostering a robust and engaging experience while adhering to GDPR and data privacy regulations.

This feature elevates the user's design journey with credits – users can earn them via a multitude of ways, and then utilise these credits to generate designs without the need for additional purchases, they can view their credit purchase/earning history and access a comprehensive guide to gain insights into how credits work, their value, and the ways they can earn and utilise them.
The array of options to earn free credits was thoughtfully curated to expand the platform's reach and engagement, while also promoting consistent platform use through account creation, facilitating usage analysis, and secure data storage i.e
